Deckstream

The unified billing and vending platform running in production for two Nigerian electricity distribution companies — Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) and Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO).

The Problem

Electricity billing in Nigeria is a data integrity problem before it's a software problem.

Distribution companies manage millions of meters and consumer accounts across legacy systems, field data collection, and manual reconciliation processes. Meter-to-account linkage drifts. Duplicate records accumulate. Feeder and transformer data falls out of sync with field reality. None of this is visible until a bill is wrong, a payment doesn't reconcile, or a report to the regulator doesn't add up.

Deckstream was built to be the single source of truth — for meters, accounts, tariffs, transactions, and the relationships between them — under the operational load of a live distribution company.

In Production

Two DisCos. One platform. Real revenue every month.

For utility providers, Deckstream delivers full visibility into end-to-end revenue flows, outstanding balances, and operational performance, all in real time — backed by a platform that has already processed over 15.5 million transactions reliably.

₦30B+

monthly processed value

5.8M

customer accounts managed

2.1M+

prepaid meters tracked live on one unified system

15.5M+

seamless transaction processing across prepaid vending, postpaid billing, and multi-channel collection

Four core functions, one platform

Deckstream unifies the systems a DisCo would otherwise run separately — without operational overlap between distribution companies.

01

Customer records

Manages prepaid and postpaid customers across every account status, at multi-million-user scale.

5.8M

accounts managed

02

Billing & collections

Reconciles prepaid vending, postpaid billing, and other revenue lines on a single ledger.

15.5M+

transactions processed

03

Metering infrastructure

Tracks metering infrastructure across deployments, built to scale with every new DisCo added.

2.1M+

04

Multi-DisCo architecture

Lets distinct distribution companies operate in parallel on one platform, without operational overlap.

What Deckstream Handles

One platform, end to end.

Meter & Account Management

A single, reconciled source of truth linking meters to consumer accounts across prepaid and postpaid populations.

Billing & Vending Engine

Stored-procedure-driven billing computation, energy caps, closing balances, and token vending at transaction scale.

Payments & Reconciliation

Reconciling payments, arrears, and debt entries across business hubs, feeders, and legacy data sources.

Feeder & Network Data

Aligning technical network data — feeders, transformers, business hubs — with billing and operational records.

Analytics & Reporting

A dedicated data warehouse syncing operational data for dashboards, regulatory reporting, and executive visibility.

API & Integration Layer

Integration endpoints and event-driven infrastructure connecting Deckstream to partner and internal systems.

Under the Hood

Built and hardened under real production load.

Deckstream runs on Laravel, MariaDB, and Redis, with a ClickHouse warehouse for analytics — architected and continuously tuned by our team as the platform has scaled to two live distribution companies.

01

Data integrity first

Meter-account linkage, duplicate resolution, and feeder/transformer alignment were treated as foundational — not cleanup work done after the fact.

02

Built for scale, tuned under load

Query patterns, caching, and queue architecture have been repeatedly profiled and optimised as real transaction volume revealed bottlenecks.

03

Observable in production

API analytics and monitoring are wired directly into the platform, so issues are caught from telemetry — not client complaints.

04

Multi-tenant by design

A single platform serving multiple distribution companies, each with distinct data, tariffs, and operational rules.
